Barlavington Estate Office

 A285 South from Petworth

From Petworth take A285: Chichester. Continue for about 3 miles to and through the village of Duncton. At the foot of The Downs (Duncton Down) take the left hand turn at the point where the A285 starts to climb. This road is Folly Lane and goes to Sutton but it is not signed from this direction.

 
A27 East/ A285 North from Chichester

From the A27 roundabout by Sainsbury’s/Pizza Hut/Macdonald’s follow A27 east: Arundel and then after about a mile look for the slip road signed A285: Petworth. Continue for about 9 miles over The Downs to and through the hamlet of Upwaltham. Start to descend Duncton Down (very steep!) and almost at the bottom take the right hand turn Folly Lane: signed to Sutton.

Once you turn onto Folly Lane take the third turning on the left – look for the red letter box, the Parish Notice Board and the low sign to Barlavington Church. Now follow “Up to Barlavington”.

 
Folly Lane West From Sutton

If you have come west through the lanes from A29 at Bury Hill and reached Sutton then find the White Horse pub. From here take the lane that rises to the left of the pub, going west out of the village with The Downs in front of you and then to your left: this is Folly Lane but it’s not signed.  Keep on this lane for about a mile or so until you reach the first metalled road turning to your right– look for the red letter box, the Parish Notice Board and the low sign to Barlavington Church. This is just after a blind hump in the road, so go slowly! Now follow “Up to Barlavington”.

 
Up to Barlavington

Take the little lane by the letter box and follow it round the bend and up to Barlavington Church (St Mary’s). When you reach the church turn sharp left up the hairpin bend. The road becomes an unmetalled track with a thick hedge to your right and a large red brick house (Barlavington Farmhouse) to your left. Carry straight on down the track to the parking area on the right beyond the hedge. Now walk through the archway opposite you and you will be in Barlavington Stud (OS grid ref SU971161). The Estate Office is the second (green) door to the left. (Post may be delivered to the letterbox in the glass door next to the Office.)
